Tattoo Removal FAQ’s

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO REMOVE A TATTOO?
This is difficult to predict because every tattoo and person is unique. The removal process is gradual: typically it requires 7- 15 treatments (varies with each person). Some patients notice complete results within 4 treatments for an older, faded amateur tattoo whereas a professionally applied tattoo may require as many as 8 treatments or more.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN BETWEEN TREATMENTS
Once the first treatment is complete, the patient will wait a period of 6 – 8 weeks until coming in for their next visit. During this “wait period” the patient’s immune system is removing the broken-down ink that was treated by the laser. This process is repeated until desirable results are reached. Several visits may be necessary to notice results. At first the darker colors will fade while brighter colors lighten. After 5 – 15 treatments, a tattoo may completely fade and not be visible at all.

DOES IT HURT?
Pain is a personal perception and everyone experiences it differently. At Lasergenex, we are proud to offer our patients several options to minimize their discomfort.

  • All of our laser tattoo removal is done in conjunction with our Zimmer Cryo 5 Skin Cooler. The Cryo 5 Skin Cooling Unit is a mobile unit that cools air to -32 degrees C. The air is then directed onto the tissue area via a flexible treatment hose. The skin cooling system is designed for superficial aesthetic procedures. The Cryo 5 Cold Air Device is intended to minimize pain and thermal injury during laser and dermatological treatments, and for temporary topical anesthetic relief. As we treat the area, we cool the overlying skin, resulting in additional comfort.
  • We can prescribe a potent anesthetic cream to numb the treated area.
